Solo and Chamber Music Series

The word can bring to mind many different images. Whether we think of the challenges and opportunities that are present in the financial market, or the fresh flavors and colors that are on display at a vibrant farmer’s market, we are led to contemplate an abundance of choices that will offer something for every taste and personal preference. Year after year, the PSU Solo and Chamber Music Series strives to create a musical marketplace for its audience, bringing to Pittsburg a great variety of artists, repertoire, and performance styles. The 2018-2019 season continues this tradition, with distinguished performers from around the globe who are experts in diverse musical traditions. All of this takes place on Friday evenings in the comfortable ambience of McCray Hall’s Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall.

We’ll begin in early September with a lively performance by the Chicago Brass Quintet. In October, we will step into an exhilarating crossover experience, courtesy of the award- winning ensemble Russian Renaissance. Our final Fall semester SCMS performance welcomes soprano Laura Strickling to the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall stage.

Our excursion through the winter/spring market will begin in January with an extraordinary program of works by Liszt and Prokofiev performed by pianist Behzod Abduraimov. In February, we will welcome to Pittsburg the period-instrument ensemble Les Délices for a fascinating presentation titled Mozart in Paris, featuring music for oboe and strings. We will round out the season with a concert by the highly-acclaimed Canadian percussion ensemble, NEXUS.

Join us for all six concerts!
